Theme
I think the theme of my book club book, Distant Waves, was that it is okay to be different. I think this because in the beginning Jane feels like an outcast because her family lives in Spirit Vale and that her mom is a medium. Once she becomes more independent and grown up she realizes that she is different and she accepts it perfectly fine. When she is in New York with Mimi she is practically alone because Mimi has to work at her new job. That leaves Jane alone, but she ends up meeting Thad. He shows her how great she is and she realizes that it's okay for her to be different because Thad likes her that way. Also, Mimi thinks she is so different than the rest of her family because she is half African American and the rest of her family is Caucasian. She also realized that's it's okay to be different when she met a man, Victor. He made her realize that her differences were a good thing. Jane and Mimi realizing that their differences are good shows that the story teaches you that it's okay to be different.
